Ropewalks
A Liverpool Neighbourhood branding project
Brief
Ropewalks is an area in Liverpool, originally named for its history of rope-making for the sailing ships that dominated the area in the 19th century. It eventually evolved into a cultural hub, known for its independent shops, restaurants, bars, nightlife, and galleries.
A logo identity was designed for the community as part of a marketing campaign in 2010. In 2022, a new brand identity was created to redefine the character of Ropewalks as a vibrant, energetic, and welcoming neighbourhood.
Concept
Ropewalks is a community-driven brand that encourages individuals to pursue their passions — whether that’s connecting with others, sharing ideas, or simply enjoying the atmosphere. At the heart of the brand is a commitment to communication, reflected in its interactive and welcoming touchpoints designed to spark meaningful engagement. The visual system is both distinctive and highly adaptable, functioning across individual shops while uniting the wider neighbourhood under a cohesive identity. Ropewalks celebrates individuality while fostering a sense of togetherness through flexible, community-first design.
